Laurie is a writer, activist, vegan, professional office drone, and aspiring humane educator. She has been volunteering with animals since 2007, and was a founding member of the Compassion Program, which served dogs scheduled for euthanasia. Her writing has appeared on several animal related blogs and in Animal Shelter Portraits by Mark Ross. She is a board member of the Deja Foundation and is always looking for more opportunities to serve, especially opportunities that combine animal welfare with at-risk youth. Laurie has a BA in English Literature from Hunter College, and in her spare time she studies Japanese and Spanish, reads morally questionable Victorian novels, and shames herself in yoga class. She lives in East Harlem with her cat, Matilda Shampoo.
